The FarEarth software suite is aimed at receiving stations, surveyors, mapping agencies and organizations that process and archive remote sensing data.  The FarEarth Multi-Mission Processing and Automation System provides end-to-end automation of an organization’s  production workflows –  from online customer order to final online or offline  delivery.

The system manages the complexity of workflow steps and makes it easier to develop automated production chains. It can control a variety of  processors from  low-level raw  processing to  systems producing  high-level information  products. The system also allows for  human workflow steps  using web-based  user interfaces.

Workflows are automatically started based on customer orders placed in an online catalogue. Flexible workflow rules allow for the automatic (or partially manual) production of imagery. The web-based catalogue allows for direct delivery and dissemination of completed production orders.

sFarEarth Observer-2

FarEarth Observer is a moving window system that provides real-time monitoring and visualization of received satellite passes. A live view is provided to users via the web.

Quicklook and quality assessment data is displayed as soon as a pass is received from the satellite, making it easy for operators to verify reception quality. The moving window also becomes a valuable tool in debugging reception problems or data quality issues. In addition, its visual appeal makes it great to entertain management or visitors.

The FarEarth Observer is a full-fledged, real-time level 1 processing system that can be extended for additional sensors. Currently Landsat 7 and 8 are supported with MODIS (Aqua/Terra) and NPP VIIRS under development.

Plugins are available for real-time fire detection and notification as well as real-time classification of downlinked imagery.

Data is streamed directly from the demodulator to the FarEarth Moving Window Server where it gets compressed and stored. Live as well as recorded passes can be viewed by operators directly or over the Internet using nothing more than a web browser.

Pinkmatter’s FarEarth Landsat Terminal is a fully automated production system for Landsat imager. Software components for acquisition QA, image processing, archiving and cataloguing are packed together into an easy to use software suite.

Moving window The terminal’s moving window system - the FarEarth Observer - provides real-time monitoring and visualization of received passes. An interface to the demodulator streams quicklook data to a web server as it is received. Clients can connect from anywhere to view live and recorded passes. The interface shows quality scores and renders the downlinked data in a number of different band combinations.

Landsat core processor At the heart of the Landsat Terminal is the Landsat Core Processor. This component produces the same high-quality imagery as the USGS with a number of additional features. The Landsat Core Processor supports the following sensors and products:

  • Landsat 8 OLI & TIRS
  • Landsat 7 ETM+
  • Landsat 4 & 5 TM
  • Landsat 1-5 MSS
  • Various projections and resampling algorithms
  • Orthorectification with automatic fallback

Archiving and cataloguing

Acquired imagery can be automatically processed to orthorectified L1T products that are placed in the archive. The archive safeguards access to products and stores raw as well as generated products. Some of the system’s capabilities are highlighted below:
